Mark Angel was a left winger, born in Newcastle, signed from Sunderland by Denis Smith during the 1995/96 promotion season. Full of trickery and pace, but too frequently lacking an end product, Angel never quite endeared himself to the Oxford fans. After three seasons at the Manor, he moved on to West Brom, but failed to establish himself there and left for Darlington two seasons later. Angel spent a four-month loan spell at Queen of the South, but never had a regular first-team place at either club.

In 2001 Boston signed Angel on a free transfer, and it was at York Street that he had his most successful period, lasting three seasons. In the Summer of 2004 he was released by Boston and joined King's Lynn, having a loan period at Conference club Cambridge United at the start of 2005/06 season. 3 England semi-pro caps.
