United moved back to the top of Division Three after a comfortable, if unspectacular, victory over Southend this afternoon. Southend are the next visitors to the KasStad as United look to extend their 100% home record. Southend have a 0% away record, and haven’t even been able to score on their travels, which is a worry. Apparently Oxford United played a behind-closed-doors friendly at Millwall’s New Den this afternoon. We have no details of the Oxford line-up for the game, arranged to give players of both sides a chance to sharpen up their match fitness, but Millwall won 3-0 after being two up at half-time. As speculated upon yesterday, Dexter Blackstock has indeed been signed by Southampton. Neither United nor the Saints have revealed how much Gordon Strachan’s mob paid for the 17 year old striker, but the Oxford press have speculated the fee to be in the region of ?175,000, rising to ?600,000 depending on appearances etc. Rage Online  [ more ]

There are unconfirmed reports that United’s 17 year old striker Dexter Blackstock, as sponsored by Rage On, has been signed by Southampton, with yesterday’s Guardian suggesting that a fee of ?200,000 had been agreed. United should have taken all three points from Kidderminster, but in the end they were grateful to escape with one point and their unbeaten record intact from Aggborough. In the morning’s fixture Raging Fever went down to their second successive heavy defeat. Fever had struggled to get a full team for the game against KHIST, but were able to field a side thanks to a debut from Nick in central defence. United visit Kidderminster on Saturday, hoping to extend their unbeaten start to the season and, hopefully, to return to pole position. Taking a leaf out of the first team’s book, United’s reserves ground out a 3-0 win against a competent and evenly matched Plymouth side. United are no longer top of the league, having been displaced this evening by York City. York beat Southend 2-0 tonight at Bootham Crescent to go two points clear of United. The night’s other Division Three match saw Scunthorpe totally demolished by Mansfield, who ran out 5-0 winners. This win lifts Mansfield up to sixth.  [ more ]
