Tip-top

September 6, 2003

United moved back to the top of Division Three after a comfortable, if unspectacular, victory over Southend this afternoon. Steve Basham scored his fifth of the season after 26 minutes, nipping between Leon Cort and goalie Carl Emberson to tap the ball home, and two minutes into the second half Paul Wanless scored his first  more ]

Southend are the next visitors to the KasStad as United look to extend their 100% home record. Southend have a 0% away record, and haven’t even been able to score on their travels, which is a worry. Oxford will have Julian Alsop available for selection following his one-match suspension, and David Waterman and Andy Scott  more ]

Den of secrets

September 2, 2003

Apparently Oxford United played a behind-closed-doors friendly at Millwall’s New Den this afternoon. We have no details of the Oxford line-up for the game, arranged to give players of both sides a chance to sharpen up their match fitness, but Millwall won 3-0 after being two up at half-time. Ex-Dex

As speculated upon yesterday, Dexter Blackstock has indeed been signed by Southampton. Neither United nor the Saints have revealed how much Gordon Strachan’s mob paid for the 17 year old striker, but the Oxford press have speculated the fee to be in the region of ?175,000, rising to ?600,000 depending on appearances etc. Rage Online  more ]

United harried

August 30, 2003

United should have taken all three points from Kidderminster, but in the end they were grateful to escape with one point and their unbeaten record intact from Aggborough. As the game was seemingly heading toward a goalless draw it took a moment of brilliance from substitute Mark Rawle, scoring his second goal in two games,  more ]

Fever hitch

August 30, 2003

In the morning’s fixture Raging Fever went down to their second successive heavy defeat. Fever had struggled to get a full team for the game against KHIST, but were able to field a side thanks to a debut from Nick in central defence. Unfortunately Kidderminster had several players who were the wrong side of thirty  more ]

Kidding around

August 28, 2003

United visit Kidderminster on Saturday, hoping to extend their unbeaten start to the season and, hopefully, to return to pole position. York are away to Lincoln so Oxford will be hoping that the Imps can get at least a draw. Ian Atkins will have to make at least one change to the side that beat  more ]

Dexter’s celebratory

August 27, 2003

Taking a leaf out of the first team’s book, United’s reserves ground out a 3-0 win against a competent and evenly matched Plymouth side. The first goal even mirrored Saturday with ROS Dexter Blackstock nipping between a defender and the ‘keeper for a touch on a long ball from defence. After half-time Dexter doubled the  more ]

Second best

United are no longer top of the league, having been displaced this evening by York City. York beat Southend 2-0 tonight at Bootham Crescent to go two points clear of United. The night’s other Division Three match saw Scunthorpe totally demolished by Mansfield, who ran out 5-0 winners. This win lifts Mansfield up to sixth.  more ]
