You make me want to cry…

The latest chapter in the slow death of Oxford United unfolded this afternoon as the U's went down without a fight, 5-0 to Millwall at Senegal Fields. Parkin opened the scoring in the second minute and added his second in the 63rd. In the meantime Neil Harris had scored twice in the 36th and 39th minutes, and then completed his hat-trick in the 68th. Despite great anticipation to the contrary, United started with the same line-up which began against Bury. During the first half Ian McGuckin went off injured to be replaced by Lee Jarman, and a double substitution at half time, when it was too late to make any difference, saw the forward line of Steve Anthrobus and Manny Omoyinmi swapped for Jamie Cook and new boy Leon Mike. Paul Tait was Oxford's first booking, followed later by Jon Richardson, watched by a low crowd of 8,565. A match report exists here.

At the bottom of the Second Division our relegation rivals generally had better fortunes than United. swindon won 3-2 at Luton, for whom Mark Stein scored the first goal. Bristol City drew 1-1 at home to Colchester, Oldham drew 1-1 at Bournemouth, and Wrexham lost 1-0 at home to Walsall.
