Wright off

From the Rage Online newsdesk Friday, August 6th, 2004

In sensational news Chester manager, and former Oxford defender and boss, Mark Wright has left the club the day before the new season is due to start. Neither Wright, nor his assistant, former Oxford assistant manager David Moss, have said why they have resigned, although strong rumours suggest that it might have something to do with Chester chairman Steve Vaughan insisting that Wright pick Vaughan’s son. These rumours also hint that former Oxford captain Phil Bolland has not yet been registered for the new season. Former Tranmere boss Ray Mathias will be taking charge for Chester’s visit to Notts County tomorrow.

Oxford’s opponents tomorrow, Boston United, have strengthened their squad with two new signings ahead of the new season. Former Oxford winger Courtney Pitt, whose contract wasn’t renewed by United at the end of last season, has joined and will probably go straight into the side against his former club. Pitt was on trial at Luton. Also joining the Pilgrims is Peterborough defender Gareth Jelleyman, and they have been linked with striker Zema Abbey, brother of their goalie, former United triallist Nathan Abbey.

Another former United player, Adi Viveash, has moved to basement rivals Kidderminster. Viveash spent a month on loan at Aggborough last season. In a bigger coup, Harriers’ boss Jan Molby has also acquired the signature of Iyesden Christie, released by Mansfield at the end of last season.
