Wycombe Wanderers 2 Raging Fever 1

Raging Fever slipped to an away day defeat as they were narrowly beaten by Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday morning.

The visitors conceded two early second half goals and despite Pat Wehmeier's goal halving the defecit, Fever could not find a way to draw level.

Considering the scenes over in America, now doesn't seem a particularly appropriate time to complain about the weather. However, Wycombe's Holmers Farm ground is possibly the coldest place this side of the Arctic circle.

Whenever Fever play Wycombe, the first challenge that has to be fought is the one with the choice of football along the M40. As Fever's footballs currently have air retention issues, Wanderers won the ball battle and the match commenced with a green football that can be found in the bargain bucket of any good sports shop. It could plausibly be argued that below average footballers deserve below average footballs, but when you give two teams overloaded with defenders a lightweight ball in a swirling wind, the end result is not going to be pretty.

Neither side were able to field full strength teams so there was an unusual feel to the Fever team. There was a utility man up front, a winger and centre back in central midfield and almost everybody else itching to be somewhere in the defence.

As the pea, as it shall henceforth be known, ricocheted around the midfield with a total lack of control from either team, neither goalkeeper was unduly tested in the opening exchanges.
