Wombles await

Oxford United go into tonight's FA Trophy first round replay at Tonbridge Angels with the incentive of a home tie against AFC Wimbledon in the second round.[@news]2238[/@news][@opponent]tonbridge[/@opponent] [@connection]tonbridge[/@connection] A toothless United were held to a 0-0 draw by Tonbridge at Minchery Farm on Saturday, the fourth successive game in which the Us have failed to score, and they travel to Longmead tonight looking to rectify the errors that caused manager Darren Patterson to brand the side a disgrace. However, there is some doubt as to whether the fixture will take place this evening, as a severe overnight frost has left the ground rock hard, and a pitch inspection will take place at lunchtime. EDIT: The match is ON.

Patterson will make some changes to the side for tonight's game, as goalkeeper Billy Turley is suspended. Turley collected his fifth yellow card of the season at Southend United in the FA Cup second round replay defeat, and was due to miss next Saturday's Setanta Shield game at Aldershot, but the replay means that he misses this game instead. Sam Warrell will therefore make his Oxford United debut, while youth-team keeper James Foster may be on the bench, if Patto wants a back-up goalie involved. Danny Rose, who came on as a substitute on Saturday with 20 minutes of the game remaining, is also unavailable, having tweaked his hamstring in the match. Ben Weedon has been included in tonight's squad, leaving the possibility that he may play at left back, with Alex Jeannin moving into midfield. There may well be other changes to Saturday's side, and striker Alex Fisher is in the squad following the failure of the other four strikers on the books to damage the Tonbridge defence. Midfield is another problem area, with neither Eddie Hutchinson nor Phil Trainer looking good enough to play at this level, but with almost no back up in the squad.

Tonbridge will also be stretched this evening, as manager Tom Warrilow has lost two more members of his squad with suspensions. John Westcott, Kwasi Edusei, and Carl Rook all remain cup-tied, while captain Ray Powell and midfielder Anthony Storey are both suspended. The Angels will be desperate to do well tonight, with the plum of a financial windfall against Wimbledon in the second round. The People's Team have one of the best away supports in non-league, and should Oxford get through, this could well be the first time in the short history of the FA Trophy (which started in 1972) that former League Cup winners will have played former FA Cup winners, both triumphs taking place in the last 25 years. However, United have a major obstacle to overcome first, although Rage Online is hopeful that they will, at last, come good. We predict 2-0 to the Yellows (and yes, we know that's what we predicted for Saturday – if we say it often enough we're bound to get it right one day).
