Oxford United travel to Woking[@opponent]Woking[/@opponent] this evening, still searching for their first league win since 25 November, and their first away win since 21 October. This poor run of form has seen United lose an eight-point lead at the top of the Conference, and slip to second place, three points behind new leaders Dagenham & Redbridge. It's becoming rather boring now to call every upcoming game a must-win match, but that surely is the case now, because if United don't start winning soon, not only will Dagenham be able to extend their lead, but the chasing pack, currently five points adrift, will soon catch up with the Us. Woking were United's visitors on Boxing Day, when a record Conference crowd of 11,065 attended.[@news]618[/@news]
There have been injury worries over both senior goalkeepers at United, but both Billy Turley and Chris Tardif have apparently overcome their problems. This means that Turley is likely to start tonight, with Tards on the bench, and no place for youth-team keeper Gareth Tucker. Bearing in mind that this is the second game in a short space of time, we expect Gavin Johnson to play at left wingback, with Rufus Brevett on the bench, although the rest of the defence is likely to be unchanged. Andy Burgess is still unavailable as a result of his virus, so the midfield trio is also likely to be the same as at Grays on Saturday, while there is also no reason to suppose that Jim Smith will alter the attacking duo of Rob Duffy and Kris Grebis.
The pitch at Kingfield is apparently in even worse condition than that at Grays, so don't expect United to play a beautiful passing game (not that they would anyway). The Cards have just signed a new goalkeeper, Argentinian Nick Grinde, but he is unlikely to replace current incumbent, James Bittner. They have also just released manager Glenn Cockerill's son, Liam. Meanwhile, Eddie Hutchinson's twin brother Tom, who had such a good game at Oxford on Boxing Day, is injured. Woking's average attendance this season is 1,983, but their best is the 3,725 who were at their local derby against Aldershot. For a change, this is unlikely to be beaten tonight. Rage Online can't see United turning their form around this evening, but we don't think United will lose either, so we're going for the safe option and predicting a 0-0 draw. We also predict that it's going to be bloody cold.
There is almost a full Conference programme this evening, with leaders Dagenham visiting Grays, who drew 2-2 with United on Saturday. Third-placed York City have a local derby at Halifax, while Gravesend travel to Crawley. Fifth-placed Burton Albion are without a game. United's next game is the live TV match at home to Rushden & Diamonds, next Monday. Rushden are at home to Cambridge United today.
