Woking aside

From the Rage Online newsdesk Sunday, April 12th, 2009

United travel to Woking tomorrow with their play-off hopes still vaguely intact following yesterday's last-gasp win over Wrexham. Oxford are three-points off the play-offs with three games to play, but they have still played more games than their rivals, and so even if Oxford can take maximum points qualification is by no means guaranteed. Considering that just four months ago United were allegedly in a relegation battle, the turn around in fortunes has been nothing short of incredible, so even if Oxford don't make it this season the foundations are there for next year.

Chris Wilder is almost certain to make a couple of changes to the side that beat Wrexham yesterday. The most likely change is to recall Craig Nelthorpe, probably at Yemi Odubade's expense. Craig Farrell may also come into the starting line-up, but a lot will depend on whether yesterday's game threw up any new injury worries.

Since sacking Phil Gilchrist Woking have won a couple of games, pulling themselves out of the relegation zone as a result. They are one point above Weymouth, who look almost certain to go down with Lewes and Northwich Victoria, and two points above York City, having played more games than any of the teams around them. Obviously Oxford won't want to do Woking's survival battle any favours, and this is almost bound to be another game where away supporters outnumber the home faithful. That is no guarantee of an away win, unfortunately, but this is a game that Oxford ought to win. It's results elsewhere that are likely to decide United's fate this season.[@opponent]woking[/@opponent][@connection]woking[/@connection][@player]gilchrist, phil[/@player]
