In the most unsurprising piece of news that we can remember, tomorrow's FA Trophy second round match against Woking at the United Stadium has been postponed. A local referee inspected the pitch this morning, but on being unable to locate it under the permafrost he had a nice cup of tea instead and gave the rest of the boys the weekend off.
Slightly more surprising is that the game has been provisionally rearranged for this Tuesday, 12 January. Given the prevailing conditions and forecasts – more snow on Sunday and Monday and temperatures consistently failing to climb above freezing – we will be astonished if the game is able to proceed then. Should the game be postponed again, it is likely to be rescheduled for the date of the third round, 30 January, when Oxford's scheduled fixture is a home Conference game against Wrexham.
On the plus side, United aren't alone in collecting a fixture backlog, as all the Conference games scheduled for this weekend, and so far ten of the 16 FA Trophy games, have all been postponed, to add to the games called off over the past few weeks. Our suggestion is that we start to follow Oxford United, Barbados.[@opponent]woking[/@opponent]
