Wilko and out

From the Rage Online newsdesk Monday, September 29th, 2003

Following Northampton’s 3-0 defeat at Oxford on Saturday the Cobblers’ boss Martin Wilkinson has been sacked, with former United midfielder Richard Hill temporarily taking charge of team affairs. Wilkinson is just the latest in a long and impressive line of managers sacked after their team lost to Oxford, a proud achievement for our favourite club.

Former Oxford player and manager Mark Wright, currently on the Wayne at Chester, has been linked with the vacant managerial post at Tranmere Rovers, who are obviously keen on returning to their natural resting place at the foot of the league. Also linked with the vacancy is Ian Atkins, who seems to be getting named in connection with every manager’s job available (except perhaps Tottenham’s).

On Saturday United’s under-19s came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 at Luton with goals from Billy Beechers, Michael Alexis and Adam Gardner. A Luton report described Alexis as the best player on the pitch, and Oxford as the best team to have played against Luton yet this season.
