A source that could be described as reliable suggests that United might be about to sign Julian Alsop from Cheltenham. Alsop had a reasonable scoring record at Swansea, where he was a fans' favourite, but hasn't figured so high in the scoring charts in Gloucestershire.

At Court Place Farm this evening, in a hastily arranged friendly, United beat Oxford City 4-2. Unfortunately we have no details of scorers or line-ups. The game was organised to give Mark Wright an opportunity to assess squad members who did not figure in first team action on Saturday, presumably including Joey Beauchamp, Phil Gray and Dean Whitehead.
