Vetch, boy!

From the Rage Online newsdesk Friday, April 15th, 2005

United travel to Swansea this evening for their penultimate away game of the season, and their last ever visit to the Vetch Field before the Swans move to the impressive-looking White Rock stadium. The Vetch can sometimes be quite an intimidating venue, and with nothing to play for but pride (and new contracts), United will have to be at their best to give a decent game against the team currently fourth in the table.

We know that there will be at least one change from the side that beat Notts County on Saturday, as it’s Tommy Mooney’s turn to be rested. The likelihood is that Wales under-21 international Craig Davies will be Steve Basham’s partner up front, but it’s also possible that the ROS Chris Hackett might be given a run-out in attack, possibly with Emiliano Diaz at right wing, or perhaps with room being found to give Amine Karam a longer spell in the side. Lee Bradbury returns to the squad after he was rested last week, so he could feature in place of Lucas Cominelli, maybe. Paul Wanless will probably continue in central defence, alongside Mateo Corbo, who is looking at setting a new record for yellow cards in a season, and he’s only been here since January! In his ten games for United, Corbo has been booked eight times, which is pretty spectacular by anyone’s standards.

Swansea will be without James Thomas, but will otherwise be at full strength. They last 1-0 to Lincoln at the weekend and so may revert to 4-3-3, having been unsuccessful with 4-4-2. Although they are outside the automatic promotion places, Swansea are only four points off the top spot. If United win they will climb two places, up to tenth, before the rest of the fourth division games tomorrow. Swansea were a tad fortunate to beat Oxford 1-0 at the Kas earlier in the season and so United will be after some revenge. Rage Online doesn’t think that we’ll get it, though, and can see Swansea winning 2-0.
