Upton for the cup

From the Rage Online newsdesk Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

In tonight's draw for the League Cup second round, Oxford were drawn to play away to West Ham United. The game is to be played on the week commencing 23 August and will be Chris Wilder's biggest test to date.

United have played Westam twice before in this competition, losing on both occasions. As holders, United were beaten 1-0 at Upton Park in the fourth round on 18 November 1986. On 31 October 1990 the Hammers won 2-0 in the third round.

United shouldn't be too daunted by a trip to East London, though, as the club is clearly in good shape. This was reinforced earlier today when a side featuring those players who weren't involved in the 6-1 thrashing of Bristol Rovers played a game against Glen Hoddle's Academy at Bisham Abbey. United ran out 4-0 winners thanks to a brace from Danny Philliskirk and on apiece from Mitchell Cole and Richie Baker. The match also enabled some of the players to clock up some valuable playing time, with Ben Purkiss continuing his rehabilitation from injury by playing the full 90 minutes, while Simon Clist played for an hour.
