Up front rumours

A quiet news day today, although numerous rumours have surfaced concerning Mark Wright's search for a new striker. Wright has said that he has someone in mind but that they are a long way from signing anyone just yet. He has dismissed reports that the target is Leo Fortune-West, currently languishing in Cardiff's reserves and probably available on a free transfer.

The Paul Moody rumours have subsided for the time-being. It is thought that Wright tried to contact the Millwall striker after Moody's agent put about a story that the former Oxford player was unsettled, but he couldn't get in touch before the rumour broke and this affected the deal. The current favourite is Walsall's Brett Angell who is currently on the transfer list. Angell will probably command a fee and his wages may well be out of Oxford's reach. There is also no news concerning which players Wright is considering releasing.

Other names mentioned in connection with United include former swindon man Wayne Allison, currently on the books at Tranmere, Steve Flack at Exeter, Plymouth's Ian Stonebridge, Lloyd Owusu of Brentford and even Ian Wright, currently a TV chat-show host, has had his name mentioned in despatches. As far as Rage Online can ascertain there is no substance to any of these stories.

Stuffed by the Gills?

United welcome Gillingham tomorrow evening in the first floodlit match at the new stadium, so it will be interesting to see what parking problems this match throws up, especially as it will be difficult for people to arrive early as recommended. With the North Stand closed to home supporters it will also be interesting to see how the ticket office copes, especially as some pay-on-the-day spectators will likely suffer from a restricted view seat.

On the field United are expected to keep the same side which drew at Swansea although Rage Online predicts that a similar scoreline is unlikely. We'd like to think that the side will make a better show of it than against Rochdale in the opening game, but we suspect that United will be fortunate not to end up embarrassed. We sadly believe that the scoreline will be 3-0 to Gillingham.
