United's undefeated away record was maintained today at Kenilworth Road as they drew 1-1 with Luton. Andy Scott put United 1-0 up with a shot direct from a free kick after five minutes, but four minutes later Kevin Nicholls equalised when the Oxford defence failed to deal with a long throw-in.
The only change from the line-up which started against Rushden & Diamonds was Scott Guyett returning from his ankle injury to displace Jon Richardson. No substitutes were used. The referee Clive Penton booked Dean Whitehead, Phil Bolland and Martin Thomas. United have now slipped to 12th in the division. The attendance was 6,736. A match report can be found here.
After the game Mark Wright claimed that he was keen to hold on to Andy Scott and that his search for a new striker wasn't to find a replacement for Scott but to give him extra options. Certainly with the form that Scott showed today it would be a big loss to the club should he leave, and if he was to go to Luton (and Joe Kinnear shook Scott's hand before the game today) then it would be a great shame, as at the end of the season they could be one of United's big rivals. Kinnear claimed that Scott's agent had contacted him to ask if he was interested should Scott be available (to which Kinnear responded in the positive) but that there had been no contact with Oxford or Scott about any transfer.
Elsewhere Nigel Jemson scored Shrewsbury's first goal in their 2-1 win over Cheltenham. Andy Thomson notched QPR's equaliser but they still went down 2-1 at Brighton. Simon Weatherstone scored Boston's last goal as they beat Yeovil 4-0. Rochdale beat Kidderminster 2-0 to stay top of the table whilst United's next opponents, Exeter, lost 4-2 at Swansea to stay bottom.
