Either the current designers of United’s strip have got it right, or else Oxford fans have very short memories. Last season’s kit won the Rage Online readers poll for their favourite strip with 24% of the vote. In second place was the choice of all the traditionalists, harking back to the club’s first days in the league before replica kits and corporate money-making schemes were in vogue, the old gold shirts and black shorts which received 17%. The promotion-winning kit of ’96 came joint third with 12%, the same amount as voted that all United’s strips have been equally wonderful.
