Oxford United will begin their Football League campaign away to Division Four newcomers Portsmouth. The Yellows have been handed a mouth-watering opening match at Fratton Park on Saturday August 3rd, meaning an instant reunion with former Us striker Tom Craddock.

United will travel to Guy Whittingham’s side just a few days before their Capital Cup first round encounter with Division Two outlet Charlton Athletic, shortly before entertaining Bury, who were also condemned to relegation from Division Three, on Saturday August 10th for Oxford’s first home game of the season.

The Us will end the campaign on Saturday May 3rd away at the Sixfields Stadium when United travel to Northampton Town, with fans hoping the final match will be a cause for celebration come the end of the season.

Despite being drawn away once again on the opening and closing games of the campaign, Oxford were pleased to be given a home Boxing Day fixture this season as Plyouth Argyle will be the visitors at the Kassam Stadium on Sunday December 26th.

New Year’s Day serves up a treat as the Yellows head to Newport County for the first time ever. Meanwhile, other key dates include a home derby against Wycombe Wanderers on August 24th and a visit to newly promoted Mansfield Town on Saturday November 16th.
