Oxford United have completed the anticipated loan signing of Fulham winger Ryan Williams. The 19 year-old midfielder joins the Us on loan until January and was an unused substitute in the emphatic 4-1 victory against Portsmouth as Oxford kicked off their Division Four campaign in style at Fratton Park.
The teenager played over an hour in the Us 1-0 pre-season victory at home to Coventry City last weekend, and will stay at the Kassam Stadium until the New Year.
Williams joined Premier League outfit Fulham from Portsmouth in 2012, after making just six substitute appearances for the south-coast club.
The ex-Pompey winger made his Blues debut on the opening day of the 2011/12 season against Middlesbrough. After a handful of substitute appearances for the club, Fulham brought Williams to Craven Cottage on transfer deadline day in January 2012 after impressing the London club with his displays on the wing.
The Cottager was loaned out to Gillingham last term, but failed to make an appearance for the Division Four champions during a four-month spell at the Priestfield Stadium. The Australian youth player also played in all three of his country’s Under-20 World Cup campaign this summer.
Williams was born in Perth, and started his career at local side ECU Joondalup. The youngster has two brothers who also play professional football in England, with Rhys at Division Two side Middlesbrough and Aryn being recently released by Burnley.
The youngster becomes boss Chris Wilder’s ninth new addition to the squad this summer, and he was pleased to welcome Williams to the set-up: “I’m delighted with the recruitment we’ve done this summer and now Ryan has come in I think we’re done.
“He’ll come into a squad with a lot of new players that have gelled really well.”
