Saturday's away game sees United off to the Priestfield Stadium to watch Andy Hessenthaler's Gillingham FC. After an unbeaten run of seven games against teams in the bottom half of the table, United now face a tough stretch of matches to teams mostly in the play-offs or top half or the table, with Port Vale, Southend, Crawley, Cheltenham and Morecambe all coming up after Gillingham.
Last week saw United rescue a point at Macclesfield Town in the fourth minute of added time, thanks to a deflection from young Robert Hall's shot to leave the game level at 1-1.
United team news
Jake Wright has extended his contract by a year (see news article to the right). Andy Haworth was injured last week at the Moss Rose, predicted to be out for a month, and 20 year old striker Danny Philliskirk returns to United on a one month emergency loan following his short spell with the club at the start of last season. Injuries remain as was: Craddock, Capaldi, Worley, Tonkin, Chapman, James, Whing, and Franks. Up front we may see a return to the starting line up for Robert Hall, with Potter and Constable alongside. The midfield will presumably be unchanged from Macclesfield with McLaren, Heslop and Leven; and in defence Batt, Duberry, Wright and Davis.
Gills news
Gillingham are only two points behind United on 21 points, but sit in 9th place. They have though won six games, the same as United, including away wins against Crewe and Torquay. The Gills also have the benefit of their own West Ham loanee, Frank Nouble scoring last week against the gulls. Hessenthaler's last six games have seen a total of 28 goals, with 17 for Gillingham versus 11 conceded. This apparent superiority has though seen three wins, a draw, and two losses. United's six game record is scored 10, conceded three, with four wins and two draws. Adebayo Akinfenwa left Gillingham in the summer to return to Northampton, however fractured his jaw playing against Crawley two weeks ago. Top scorer is ex AFC Wimbledon and hometown boy Danny Kedwell with five; and Frank Nouble, Chris Wheldale and Luke Rooney have three apiece.
