United fell to their 33rd league defeat of the season, conceding their 100th goal in the process, going down 2-1 at Notts County. Typically United took the lead through the Rage On Sponsored Rob Folland, who followed in a Jamie Brooks shot in the 18th minute. David Joseph equalised in the 35th minute before a late goal from County's player of the season Mark Stallard sealed the points for the home side in the 82nd minute.

United started with almost the same side which took the field against Port Vale, the only exceptions being Phil Wilson replacing the injured Richard Knight in goal and Folland starting up front for the also injured Manny Omoyinmi. Mike Ford used all three substitutes, bringing on surprise choice Robert Quinn to replace Andy Scott, who took a knock; Jorden Holder replaced Folland and Paul Powell came on for Brooks. This left Kelvin McIntosh still awaiting his United debut. Wayne Hatswell received a yellow card and the attendance was 5,513. A match report can be found here.

After the game Mike Ford claimed that he had told Firoz Kassam that he wanted the manager's job permanently. A caller to Radio Oxford also said that Cheltenham boss Steve Cotterill will be installed in the United hot-seat on Monday week. Rumours also persist about John Aldridge.

Next season United fans can look forward to a nice trip to the English Riviera as Torquay beat Barnet 3-2 at Underhill to consign the Bees to Conference football and ensuring their own league survival. Another trip to look forward to is to Irthlingborough, Northants, after Rushden & Diamonds won the Conference championship, causing Yeovil's manager Colin Appleton to resign.

The Division Three play offs will be contested by Hartlepool, Orient, Hull and Blackpool. There is still a (slight) possibility that some Division Three issues remain to be settled as half a dozen or so clubs are threatening to take the Football League to court over their totally inept and inadequate handling of the Chesterfield affair. They are claiming that the Spireites should have all the points they won when controversial signing from Chester Luke Beckett was playing revoked. This amounts to over 70 points and would, in fact, take them below Barnet. Rage Online suspects that this will not happen.

Former United men who found the net on the League's last day included Paul Moody, who scored two as Millwall stormed to the Second Division championship with a 5-0 win over Oldham. Nigel Jemson scored twice for Shrewsbury in their 3-0 win over champions Brighton. Jamie Cook also hit two for Boston in their 5-3 win over Hereford.
