United draw

United draw

Another depressing home game as United could only draw with bottom club Colchester in what was perhaps one of the most depressing footballing spectacles seen at the Manor for a long time. United were unchanged from Saturday's starting line-up and had a dream start when Jamie Lambert scored after just 17 seconds. However United were unable to capitalise on their good start and allowed Colchester a soft equaliser from Steve McGavin after half an hour. A double substitution of Jamie Cook and Ben Abbey for Lambert and Lilley was unable to turn things around, and not even a Matt Murphy penalty miss, harshly awarded after Whelan was adjudged to have been held down, could not disguise that this was a relegation performance from the home team. The result does, however, move United out of the relegation zone above Chesterfield. Curiously the attendance for the match was a numerologist's delight – 4,444. Check out the match report for some interesting managerial speculation!

Former U's

Marco Gabbiadini scored twice as Darlington beat Orient 3-1; Howard Forinton scored both Peterborough goals as they won 2-1 at Lincoln.

Atkins declares interest/Watson news

Apparently former Northampton manager Ian Atkins has declared his interest in the United vacancy, according to Ceefax. Mark Wright has (again) become the favourite for the post. Meanwhile it has emerged that both Derby County and Millwall are interested in buying Mark Watson, with Millwall allegedly offering a five figure sum for the player who is out of contract at the end of the season. However Nicky Banger has, according to Teamtalk, rejected terms offered to him by Dundee in the hope that he might still have a future at the Manor.
