On This Day |
Today is the anniversary of United's humiliating 3-0 defeat at Aldershot in the FA Cup 3rd round in 1987. United were in the First Division whilst Aldershot were in Division Four and had trebled their usual admission price to £9 to ensure an attendance of just 2,034, the lowest third round attendance since before the Second World War. Another embarrassing result that occured on January 10th came in 1998 when Malcolm Crosby oversaw the U's go down 5-1 at Huddersfield, United's consolation being a long-range scorcher by Martin Gray. |
According to reports on an unofficial Brentford website Thorne in the Sides United today completed the signing of two Bees players, striker Andy Scott, who scored two goals against us on New Year's Day, and midfielder Robert Quinn. However, this has yet to be confirmed by any other source.
It is alleged that the initial bid was £150,000 for Scott and Quinn plus a further £30 thousand for Paul Gibbs. Scott and Quinn have each signed on contracts of possibly four years, on double their present salaries, whilst Gibbs apparently didn't want to move. Supposedly Scott and Quinn were impressed with the work on the new stadium at Minchery Farm and United's prospects for the future.
Scott is (was?) Brentford's leading scorer with 15 goals and was a left sided midfielder until this season. Quinn seems to be a useful utility player who can reportedly function as either a midfielder or defender.
