Twiggonometry

At last, some news of a new player joining Oxford United, as Gary Twigg comes on board after protracted negotiations. The 23 year old striker has signed a two-year contract after leaving Airdrie United, whom he joined from Derby County, where he was a youngster when Jim Smith was in charge. Set square to feature up front, Twigg can also play left wing if necessary, although will doubtless also feature as one point of a front-three triangle. The Scottish forward was due to have signed earlier this week, but for some reason the deal hit a snag.

There has been further movement among former United players over the last few days, the most interesting snippet being that midfielder Danny Rose, who was on loan from Manchester United last season, is currently on trial at Bristol Rovers, initially on a short-term basis. Meanwhile Jamie Brooks has signed for Abingdon United, where he will join former Us Michael Alexis and Eddie's brother Anaclet Odhiambo. Abingdon United's website also claims that United will visit Northcourt Road in a pre-season friendly on Saturday 4 August.

Other former players on the move include striker Mark Rawle, who has joined up with John Dempster at Kettering Town, having previously been at Alfreton. New Conference rivals Farsley Celtic have signed former United defender Scott McNiven, immediately handing the initiative to any side with pace up front.
