Time to party!

United 1 Palace 1 (U's win 5-4 on penalties)
The first game at the new stadium ended in stalemate as United held first division Palace to a draw, United's goal being scored by local lad Paul Powell in first half stoppage time. In the resulting penalty shoot-out for the Bill Halsey Memorial Trophy Palace missed their second spot kick whilst the U's scored all five of their penalties to lift the cup.

The result, though, was secondary to the occasion, something that United have waited over forty years to achieve has finally happened, a reward for the persistence of Firoz Kassam and Oxford City Council and the patience of the fans. A match report can be found on the new Reports page for 2001/02.

Triallist Dave Savage, who played all 90 minutes, is due to sign for the club on Monday.
Jamie Brookes, who also played the full match up front alongside Andy Scott, is rumoured to be interesting Arsenal. The Gunners are suspected to be prepared to offer £2 million for the seventeen year old, money which United would be hard-pressed to refuse. However this is totally unconfirmed and should be treated as tosh until you hear otherwise.
