Thurrock in Hell!

From the Rage Online newsdesk Monday, October 12th, 2009

Thurrock FC, from Aveley in Essex (not far from Grays) were drawn to play Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round on 24 October. This is possibly the draw that Thurrock would have wanted least if they had ambitions of progressing into the first round proper of the competition. However, a draw at Oxford will give them a decent financial windfall.

Thurrock currently lie third in the Conference South, three points behind leaders Newport County, and have lost just once this season, 2-0 at home to second-placed Dover Athletic, meaning that they are unbeaten on the road. They reached the fourth qualifying round by winning 3-2 at Bishop's Stortford in the second qualifier, and then beating Potters Bar Town 4-2 on Saturday. This will be the first time that United have met Thurrock.

Other notable ties from the draw include Oxford City also being given a home tie, against either Bury Town or Bedford Town, whom they beat 4-1 a couple of weeks ago. All-Conference ties are Mansfield Town at home to Altrincham, Barrow v Chester City, Crawley Town v AFC Wimbledon, and Luton Town v Grays Athletic. Aylesbury are at home to Wealdstone.
