The Sudding FA Trophy draw

From the Rage Online newsdesk Monday, November 24th, 2008

In today's draw for the first round of the FA Trophy, Oxford United have been given a game away to AFC Sudbury, to be played on Saturday 13 December. United have never played Sudbury, who are based in a field in Suffolk. In the Third Qualifying round Sudbury, who probably aren't known as The Suds, won 2-1 at Weston-Super-Mare with goals from Craig Bussens and Gareth Heath. As far as we can ascertain (which isn't very), there have been no players who have played for both The Suds and The Us.

Sudbury play in the Southern League First Division Midlands, which is the same division as Aylesbury United. Their home games this season have an average attendance of 261. The club was formed in 1999 following a merger of Sudbury Town and Sudbury Wanderers, neither of whom were probably known as The Suds. In 2005 Didcot Town beat The Suds 3-2 at White Hart Lane in the FA Vase final. The Suds do have the good sense and common decency to play in Yellow shirts and Blue shorts. Their ground is called the King's Marsh Stadium and has a capacity of approximately 3,800.

This draw means that United will have four away games on the trot after tomorrow's home match with Kidderminster Harriers, which itself takes place after three successive away games. While Oxford should, in theory, go into the Sudbury game as favourites, at the back (or possibly front) of every United fan's mind will be the memory of Tonbridge Angels last season.
