The fixtures are fitting

From the Rage Online newsdesk Friday, July 3rd, 2009

The fixtures for the forthcoming Conference season were released today, and there's some good ones there for Oxford fans.

United start the season with a home game against York City, giving Craig Nelthorpe an early opportunity to be on the wrong end of the Oxford supporters' voices. There's then a midweek game at Kettering followed by a trip to Histon, where United have lost the only two matches. The second home game gives United a match against newly relegated Chester, sadly without Mark Wright at the helm.

United visit AFC Wimbledon on 29 August, which should be one of the more interesting of the opening fixtures, and on Tuesday 8 September Luton are coming to town. The following Saturday gives United a chance to get the traditional defeat at Wrexham out of the way. Oxford make the long trip to Gateshead on 26 September, which is a Saturday surprisingly, followed the next Saturday by the not-quite-as-long trip to Barrow.

Oxford have a home game on Boxing Day, with Rushden & Diamonds being this season's victims. Then, a year and two days after his first game in charge, Chris Wilder has the chance to revisit Salisbury to enact his revenge for his opening defeat. The away trip to Luton is on Tuesday 9 February, and we welcome Wimbledon to Minchery Farm on Tuesday 23 February.

United make their first visit to Hayes & Yeading (in Hayes, not Yeading) on 3 April, and they conclude the season with a nice seaside trip to Eastbourne Borough, hopefully for a promotion party on the beach. It will, doubtless, rain.
