Oxford United have, at last, been handed a home draw in a cup tie. Should the Us overcome Nationwide South club Lewes in their replay on Wednesday[@news]613[/@news], following Saturday's goalless draw at the Dripping Pan, they have been drawn to play Halifax [@opponent]Halifax Town[/@opponent]in Oxford on Saturday 13 January.
United played the Shaymen in the opening game of the season, on 12 August, and beat them 2-0 thanks to a Rob Duffy penalty and 30-yard wonder goal from Andy Burgess. Despite being held at Lewes, United are still favourites to win the competition, and in fact their odds have shortened to 5/1 with Bet365, and they're at 1/3 to beat Lewes on Wednesday.
Trophy holders Grays Athletic have been drawn away to Weston-super-Mare in the second round, while Histon's scant reward for beating neighbours Cambridge United 5-0 is a trip to Newport County. AFC Wimbledon, who won 2-1 at Aldershot, face another difficult trip, this time to Gravesend & Northfleet, while United's nearest opponents in the Conference, Dagenham & Redbridge, have to travel to Redditch United. Surprisingly, the draw has given potential to only two all-Conference National ties. Apart from the possibility of United hosting Halifax, Exeter City have been drawn at home to the winners of the Vauxhall Motors v Kidderminster Harriers replay.
