United have been drawn to play Rushden & Diamonds at the KasStad in the first round of the LDV Vans Trophy, southern section. The game is most likely to be played on Wednesday, October 15th.

The strange thing about this fixture is that, if United win, it will be seen as a giant-killing, seeing as Rushden are currently in Division Two. This, surely, is utterly absurd. How on earth can beating a non-league outfit from Northants be seen as anything other than purely routine?

Having said that, everything about this tournament is fundamentally absurd, and just provides an opportunity for valuable first team players to injure themselves. Having said that, a day out in Cardiff would be nice, if it ever happens…
