It’s third v fourth in the Third at the KasStad tomorrow night as United welcome Torquay in their latest league game. United are still unbeaten at home, having recently thrashed Northampton, while Torquay are fresh from their 2-0 win at fifth placed Yeovil on Saturday.
Andy Crosby should be fit again for United, but whether or not Ian Atkins chooses to play him following Saturday’s accomplished defensive performance is another matter. It would be harsh indeed to drop any of the three central defenders who kept out Northampton, although Matt Bound must be looking uncomfortably over his shoulder. The rest of the side is likely to be the same as that which started, with Julian Alsop playing his last game before his four game suspension.
Torquay can field former Oxford loanee ‘keeper Arjan Ven Heusden, who has been suspended after he received a post-match red card against Scunthorpe at the end of August. However the ban won’t start until October 20th. Torquay will be without Lee Canoville and former Us triallist Martin Gritton, while a target of Mark Wright’s, Tony Bedeau, faces a late fitness test. The Gulls will probably feature Alex Russell, whose tame penalty miss at Lincoln denied Oxford their rightful place in the play-offs and a potential Division Two relegation battle this season.
Torquay have never won a competitive fixture in Oxford, but the last three matches in this fair city have ended as draws. Rage Online sees no reason to expect this sequence to end and so predicts a 1-1 draw, as we have for the majority of other games this season with limited success. Ho-hum.
