Transfer news, although not anything to do with exciting new strikers being brought in. United’s sports therapist for the last four seasons, Neil Sullivan, is leaving the club to join up with former boss Mark Wright, now at Peterborough. It was Wright who initially appointed Sully to his post at Oxford.
According to Sully, he is leaving for personal reasons. One hopes that he will be replaced by someone equally qualified pretty soon, as this is obviously a fairly vital role in dealing with injured players. Sullivan played a key role in Jamie Brooks’ return to fitness, and now that the players have returned to pre-season training there needs to be someone who can fix the inevitable knocks that are going to occur.
Meanwhile, three fixtures have been moved back a day. The away games at Shrewsbury and Northampton, and the home game with Carlisle, have all been shifted to the Friday before the originally scheduled date, mainly due to clashes with England internationals, although the Cobblers match was moved to avoid a clash with the bloody rugby, fercrissake. This is really bad news, as all three matches were potential fixtures for Raging Fever. Don’t the clubs think about these things before making ridiculous decisions? Saturday at 3.00pm is when football matches should be played (apart from Raging Fever games, that should be played in the morning, leaving enough time to get to the pub afterwards).
