Somebody’s Kas is burning, down down

From the Rage Online newsdesk Friday, October 17th, 2008

Two fire engines were called to the Kassam Stadium this morning after a fire in the main switch room triggered the automatic alarms. Nobody was hurt in the incident, but the fire caused all except emergency power in the stadium to be cut, meaning that no computers or telephones were operational in the building.

The blaze has also cast a small doubt over tomorrow's match at home to Burton Albion. Although the floodlighting is on a separate system, if power is not restored in time then the concourse lighting and PA system won't work. Obviously, with all income crucial at the moment, the club is working hard with electricians to ensure that the game will go ahead. Online ticket sales are unaffected.

Meanwhile, United have been drawn away to Forest Green Rovers in the third round of the Setanta Shield, to be played on Tuesday 4 November. Last season, United entered the competition in the fourth round and lost 1-0 at Aldershot. A similar run in this season's not particularly lucrative tournament would not go amiss.
