Slough of despond

Oxford's disappointing pre-season continued at Wexham Park in the hot August sunshine as they failed once again to beat supposedly inferior opposition. Ryman Premier League Slough Town came back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with United. Paul Powell had put the U's ahead from the penalty spot after Manny Omoyinmi had been tripped five minutes before half time. Ten minutes into the second half the Rebels equalised through former United favourite and Blackbird Leys boy Chris Allen. There were allegedly over 500 in attendance. An alleged match report can be found here.

Bottom of the league

In a survey carried out by Total Football United's humble Manor was rated 92nd out of the 92 league teams. Hardly surprising, and thankfully (one hopes) this should be the last season we have to suffer this particular ignominy. Once again it was those appalling anachronistic fences at the Cuckoo Lane end which were cited as the main reason for United's position, along with the “surly attitude” of the stewards. The reviewer however praised Oxford's supporters as “amongst the best you could find anywhere, but unfortunately they don't run the club”. Indeed.
