Sky Sports presenter David Jones has been announced as non-executive director of Oxford United.
David, who will continue presenting Premier League football on Sky Sports, joins the Division Four club’s board to assist on all matters with almost 20 years of experience in football and journalism.
You may recognise him from Sky Sports’ Saturday Night Football, where David is joined by pundits and ex-professional footballers Jamie Redknapp, Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry in the studio.
Despite being a Sunderland supporter, David is raring to go behind the scenes at the Kassam Stadium: “This is a hugely exciting opportunity for me to use the knowledge, experience and contacts I’ve gathered in my career so far to help grow a very ambitious football club.
“I’ve been very impressed with the plans Darryl and Mark have for Oxford United. Clearly it is a club with vast potential, and I’m delighted to be part of the team.
“I remain as committed to Sky and my broadcasting career as ever, and while this role will no doubt give me a greater insight into the inner workings of football I will also be bringing with me a unique perspective.”
David, who joined Sky back in 1998 for the launch of the 24 hour channel Sky Sports News, has presented hundreds of live matches around the country and has developed working relationships with the likes of the Premier League, the Football League and the Football Association.
Us chairman Darryl Eales added: “David and I have chatted over the past 18 months and we have shared views on how football clubs should operate and, in particular, how to build real fan engagement.
“David has a wealth of knowledge as well as an incisive intellect and I am delighted that he has agreed to join the Board as we seek to move the club forward on all fronts.
“I think we will all benefit from both his insight and enthusiasm.”
