Wycombe Wanderers 6 Raging Fever 6
George Dugdale
Fever threw away the most comfortable of leads in a thrilling draw with Wycombe Wanderers on a damp Saturday morning along the M40.
The visitors started brightly and were soon in the lead after good work by Thom Airs on the left flank. The midfielder turned a defender inside-out, before crossing for the advancing George Dugdale to volley home.
Wycombe were quickly back on level terms, however, after a flowing counter-attack left stand-in goalkeeper Robb Milne with no chance.
Fever were comfortably the better side and this was soon reflected in the scoreline. A scuffed Dugdale corner looked to be posing little threat, but Theo Dominian swivelled to power the ball into the roof of the net.
Moments later, Fever were two goals ahead through a familiar combination. Airs drove forward from the middle of the field, before releasing Dugdale with a deft pass inside the full-back. The winger doubled his tally, sliding the ball home to the goalkeeper's right.
It was four moments after the half hour substitutions as John Matthews' cross was diverted into the back of the net by a Wycombe defender. The striker then didn't have long to wait for his own goal, powering home after a fine passing move involving Airs and Dominian.
Unbelievably, the half-time break seemed to destroy all Fever momentum and galvanise the young Wycombe side. Four unanswered goals brought the hosts back onto level terms, with only a couple of fine Milne saves minimising the damage.
Fever looked to have done enough to restore pride as Airs' daisy-cutter rolled into the corner of the net with the goalkeeper unaware of the location of his post, but another defensive lapse allowed Wycombe to score their sixth to level.
There was still time for Dugdale to fire wide in stoppage time as hopes of a first Fever hattrick and a late win evaporated.
