The play-off finals for the Conference South and Conference North have now concluded, adding further shape to the Conference for next season. In yesterday's Conference South play-off final, Salisbury City beat Braintree United 1-0, to join Histon in promotion from that division.
Tonight's Conference North play-off final was a much higher-scoring affair. Farsley Celtic, from between Leeds and Bradford eventually beat Leicestershire's Hinckley United 4-3, the winner coming from the penalty spot in the 89th minute. This means that after Sunday's Conference National play-off final between Exeter City and Morecambe, we will know all our opponents for next season, subject to the usual Conference caveats of bankruptcies, enforced relegations, and unforeseen resignations.
After a rather desperate week for Oxford supporters, we have at last been rewarded with some good news. The supporters' Player of the Season, Yemi Odubade, today put paid to rumours suggesting he was imminently about to sign for a League club by penning a two-year contract to stay at United. This is the current list of contracted players for next season:
Goalkeepers: Billy Turley, Chris Tardif (both with one year remaining on their contracts);
Defenders: Phil Gilchrist, Eddie Anaclet, Matt Day* (all one year);
Midfielders: Eddie Hutchinson (two years), Carl Pettefer (one year), Andy Burgess (one year);Attackers: Yemi Odubade (two years), Rob Duffy (one year), Marvin Robinson (one year).
*we think. Day signed a one-year deal at the start of last season, but we think that he played enough games to activate a clause guaranteeing him a further one year at Oxford.
