Raging Fever 2 Reading Fans 1

Some things in life are taken for granted. The sun rising in the morning, Oxford being vastly superior to Swindon, and James Longshaw wearing the Fever number 7 shirt. In a shock that has left many questioning the world that they live in, on Saturday 4 September 2010, Longshaw missed a Raging Fever fixture.

Understandably, with this in mind Fever arrived for the clash with Reading brimming with confidence. Past fixtures against the Royals have been closely contested affairs and John Matthews had a 12-strong squad who knew that this match would be no different. Fever lined up with Joel Harrison in goal, returning after injury and, to the relief of all, still holding the image of Mr Motivator close to his heart. Paul Soper and Andy Kelly paired up in front of Harrison with Paul Lucas and Nick Holloway as full backs. James Simpson and Dickon Ceadel linked up in central midfield with Tommy Wehmeier waiting in the wings. Heroically, it was George Dugdale who took up the challenge of donning the number 7 shirt after Matthews had rejected suggestions that the shirt be retired out of respect for a missing hero.
