Scraping the barrel

From the Rage Online newsdesk Thursday, May 27th, 2004

No new signings to report (yet), but there are a couple of things that we can report. Firstly Manny Omoyinmi, released by United at the end of the season, has found gainful employment with Gravesend & Northfleet. Manny spent some time on loan with Fleet last season and impressed enough for them to snap him up.

Another United old-boy, Sam Ricketts, released by Telford United (along with the rest of their playing staff), has signed for Swansea City. Ricketts had a really good season in Shropshire, capped by being capped for the England non-League side. Telford are in dire straits, and look likely to be kicked out of the Conference for going bankrupt. Although the club looks to have folded, Telford fans have committed to creating a new side, probably at the bottom of the pyramid, in order to ensure that football in Telford doesn’t die. Good luck to ’em.

Dundee defender Lee Mair, who was on Graham Rix’s hit-list and who played in a trial game for United a few weeks ago, has instead signed for Second Division Stockport County. This blow to Rix’s teambuilding plans has been mitigated slightly by the news that his defensive team-mate, right back Dave Mackay, is holding talks with Oxford tomorrow with a view to signing. More news if we ever get it.
