Savaged

Midfielder due to sign
Northampton Town midfielder Dave Savage, available on a Bosman transfer, is due to sign a contract with United tomorrow morning. Savage played against Palace on Saturday and had a reasonably good game alongside Martin Thomas and Paul Tait. Reports suggest that he is to be offered a permanent contract, but we suspect that it will have an end date a couple of years hence.

As United's hunt for a second goalkeeper continues Birmingham have denied reports that they are to sign Dave Beasant. The former England 'keeper was in talks with Mark Wright but Oxford didn't pursue their interest when it was thought that Beasant was to be offered first division football with Brum. Meanwhile former United triallist goalie Nathan Abbey, recently on trial at Stevenage, has left the Conference outfit and signed a one-year contract for Chesterfield.

Totally unconfirmed rumours dept: Yellows-Online suggests that Millwall have agreed a fee of £50,000 for former United striker Paul Moody, although this story doesn't appear elsewhere.
Another striker linked with United is Fulham's Luke Cornwall, whom it is alleged will be coming to Oxford on a one year's loan. We reiterate: treat all these rumours with deep, deep scepticism (but don't blame us if they turn out to be correct).
Our friends at Teamtalk claim that Kingstonian goalie Steve Farrelly has been in transfer talks with Mark Wright, and that he has also been approached by Brighton amongst others. Bear in mind the reputation of the originators of this story, although having said that they have been surprisingly accurate in the recent past.
