United left-winger Alex Rhodes has been released from his contract after failing to make the grade at Oxford. Rhodes was signed from Rotherham during the summer and impressed in the pre-season friendly at Brackley Town, where he scored both goals in a 2-0 win. However, in the league he has appeared just three times, all as a substitute. Rhodes has not yet got another club to move to.
Also released is defender Shane Killock, who will make his loan move to AFC Telford permanent. Killock has impressed in every game he's played, but is unlucky to be behind Mark Creighton, Luke Foster, and Rhys Day in the defensive pecking order. Although he has been impressive while playing for Telford, Chris Wilder presumably believes that his wages would be better spent elsewhere, while allowing Killock to play regularly for a team likely to be playing in the Conference National next season.
Meanwhile, the out-of-favour Chris Carruthers has had his loan spell at York City extended until January. It is possible, though by no means definite, that the cultured left-back will sign a permanent deal once the transfer window reopens in the new year.
