United’s reserves picked up their first point of the season this afternoon, away to an unbeaten Orient side. United, fielding a couple of former Portsmouth players on trial, took the lead shortly before half time when Andrew Younie cut in from the wing and shot past Michael Doyle. Orient equalised in the 52nd minute when Steve Zakuani curled the ball past Chris Tardif.
The game could have gone either way, with Loike Pires and Jason Demetriou going close for the Os, while triallist Jonathan Docker hit the post for United, and he also had a shot well saved by Doyle. Daniel Meade also had an opportunity at the end of the match. Docker has played on the left wing for Pompey’s reserves, and was substituted five minutes from time. The other triallist, midfielder Scott Harris, played the full 90 minutes, although Jamie Slabber, the Grays striker who has been training with United this week didn’t feature. Apart from Tardif, other first teamers in the side were John Dempster, Matt Day, and Gavin Johnson.
United: Chris Tardif, Chris Weedon, Gavin Johnson, Josh Kennett, John Dempster, Matt Day, Jonathan Docker (Daniel Meade 81), Scott Harris, Jerome Anderson (Marcus Deng 76), Andrew Younie, Aaron Gonzalez (Jermaine Blackwin 58).
