Reserves spent

Oxford’s reserves visited Luton Town this afternoon and got tonked 5-1, Luton thereby winning the Central and East Division on the Pontins Combination. All of the Hatters’ goals came in the first half, from Enoch Showunmi, Michael Leary, Calvin Andrew and Danny Stevens, who scored two. United pulled a goal back through Craig Davies late in the second half.

Oxford played Amine Karam up front alongside Davies, with Juan Pablo Raponi in midfield, with Emiliano Diaz, Paul Burton, and triallist Sam Wright, who’s a scholar from West Ham and who hails from Carterton. Wright was dismissed on 75 minutes for two yellow cards. Sam Cox was in goal, while the defence consisted of Michael Diaz at right back, debutant Ben Weedon at left back, and Lee Molyneaux and Ben Gunn in the centre. Billy Beechers replaced Emiliano Diaz on the hour, and Tom Franklin came on for the other Diaz brother, Michael, around 12 minutes later.

Former United striker Andy Scott has been told that he has to retire from football with immediate effect. After Scott felt pain following Orient’s game against Cheltenham he had an ECG, which discovered that Scott was suffering from the same condition that ended Marc-Vivien Foe’s life, and apparently Scott’s life was in danger for as long as he was playing football. Scott never fulfilled his undoubted potential while at Oxford, but he had started to find his goalscoring form that he had shown at Brentford after his move to Orient last summer. We wish him all the best.
