Reserves do the biz

United's reserves beat Northampton 2-1 at the Manor tonight thanks to good goals from Dean Whitehead and Paul Powell in the first half. Northampton pulled a goal back from the penalty spot with about fifteen minutes remaining. Oxford featured triallist Wayne Hatswell from Forest Green Rovers, who had a very good game and who was being watched by swindon's Malcolm Crosby, as well as Joe Kinnear and David Kemp. Manny Omoyinmi and Jamie Cook both looked lively up front, but Simon Weatherstone looked out of his depth even at this level. Northampton featured Marco Gabbiadini amongst their players, whilst United had a former Chelsea star amongst their non-playing substitutes.

Unfortunately United's youth team lost 3-1 at Coventry in their FA Youth Cup third round tie.
