Rage Online Player of the Season results

From the Rage Online newsdesk Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

The season's over, the polls have closed, the votes have been counted. Based on the voting throughout the season in the Rage Online Man of the Match and Weakest Link polls, we can now announce the winners and the losers. A large number of votes were cast, and the winner was clear, as was the loser. Incredibly, 29 different players received votes throughout the season, many receiving both plaudits and scorn, some in equal measure.

Starting with the bad news, there were four players who you voted as head-and-shoulders worse than any of their peers. John Dempster was fortunate in leaving the club during the January transfer window, otherwise he may well have fared worse than coming fourth as the Weakest Link. Marvin Robinson came third, very close to the second-worst Oxford player, according to you, Rufus Brevett. Surprisingly, to us any way, the Weakest Link for Oxford United, as voted by Rage Online readers, was Eddie Odhiambo-Anaclet, despite actually winning the Man of the Match award in over half a dozen games.

On the positive side, one player stood out as a clear winner, although three others were highly commended. Fourth best was the Players' Player of the Season, Barry Quinn. Coming in third was Carl Pettefer, who was injured for much of the second half of the season and so did particularly well. It is worth noting that Petts didn't receive a single vote as Weakest Link in any match this season. Your vote for second-best player this season went to Chris Hargreaves, who today learnt that he will not be offered a new contract by the club. The winner, though, by a country mile, was the Supporters' Player of the Season, Yemi Odubade, who swept the floor with the rest of the squad. Well done Yemi, and please accept our virtual bottle of champagne.

Thanks to all our readers for participating in the polls, and let's hope for more and better next season.
