The draw for the first round proper of the FA Trophy was made this morning, and it gave United an away match at either Banbury United or Lewes FC. The original game between these two, due to take place on Saturday, was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, and is instead being played tomorrow night at the Spencer Stadium, Banbury.

This is United’s first ever venture into this competition, which was introduced in 1969 as an opportunity for those professional and semi-professional clubs in the non-league to have a decent chance of getting to a Wembley cup final. The current holders of the Trophy are Conference rivals Grays Athletic, who face a trip to Weymouth in the First Round. Dagenham & Redbridge are at home to Crawley.

United have visited the Spencer Stadium a number of times, most recently in their 3-0 pre-season defeat at the end of July. Banbury are managed by Jim Smith’s former proteg
