Former Us winger Paul Powell has signed for one month with Phil Whitehead’s Tamworth Town. Powell is likely to feature in Tamworth’s game against Margate tomorrow.
Reports elsewhere claim that he has joined the Lambs on a one month loan, but in fact Powell is currently out of contract and is free to do whatever he wants. He made a few appearances for United in pre-season games, either as a fitness exercise or to try and impress enough to be offered a new deal, but nothing has yet been forthcoming.
Powell made his debut for United against Chesterfield in January 1996 and made 199 appearances for the Us, scoring 22 goals in the process. His last start was in the 2-0 home defeat against Wrexham last season.
