From being just one place outside the play-offs on Saturday evening, Oxford United have plummeted four places without even playing a game. First, on Sunday, Crawley creeped above the Us by beating the Conference's newest whipping boys Weymouth 4-2. Then, today, an almost full Conference programme saw just about every result go against United as the faintest glimmer of a play-off place became a whisper in the wind.
Cambridge United climbed up to second place thanks to a last-minute winner against Mansfield Town, who had taken the lead thanks to a Rob Duffy goal, the final score being 2-1. Histon dropped to third after going down (or up) to Barrow, whose 1-0 win lifted them out of the relegation zone. Torquay United climbed to fourth thanks to a last-minute winner at Altrincham, meaning that, with Stevenage Borough not playing, Oxford are now nine points off the play-offs.
Kidderminster Harriers climbed above Oxford into seventh place after beating Crawley, who remain sixth, 2-0, with Justin Richards scoring the second goal. Wrexham are just one place behind the Harriers thanks to a late Jefferson Louis equaliser against Forest Green Rovers, while Kettering Town also climbed above Oxford after being held to a 0-0 draw at home by United's opponents on Saturday, Grays Athletic.
In the other games, Rob Wolleaston opened the scoring for Rushden & Diamonds against bottom side Lewes, with Rushden going on to win 2-1. Salisbury City look to have put their relegation worries behind them after beating hapless Weymouth 4-0 at the Wessex Stadium. Ho-hum.
