Players sign

Not a lot to report from yesteryear. In 1983 the U's went down 2-1 to Torquay at Plainmoor in a third round replay. In 1991 United and Notts County shared six goals in a Division Two match at the Manor. Two years later United went out of the FA Cup in a third round replay against Swansea at the Manor, despite the game ending 2-2 – blame the penalty shoot-out.

Players sign

The three players United have been chasing all week eventually signed this morning. Kevin Austin from Barnsley, Andy Scott and Robert Quinn from Brentford joined United for combined transfer fees of about £250,000 plus signing-on fees and wages. Apparently the delay with Scott and Quinn was caused by Brentford chairman Ron Noades making alterations to the deal on more than one occasion. Austin's signing also encountered a problem and his registration was not processed in time to allow him to play against Walsall tomorrow. There is likely to be one further signing in the near future.

Walsall preview

It is anticipated that new signings Scott and Quinn, as well as loanee Garry Monk from Southampton, will all start tomorrow, as will Phil Gray, now recovered from injury. With Cutler continuing in goal he is likely to have Lee Jarman, Jon Richardson, Monk and Paul Powell in front of him. Quinn may well replace Matt Murphy in midfield whilst Scott and Gray should be up front. Walsall haven't won in their last six away games and have also doubts about several players who have been suffering from 'flu and injuries. Despite this, and the influx of new players into United's ranks, Rage Online anticipates a 2-1 victory to the Saddlers, although we hope we're wrong!
One piece of good news was Luton's home defeat to Wycombe this evening, despite them being a goal up at half-time.
