Oxford City details

United's 4-2 victory at Court Place Farm was achieved with goals from ROS Rob Folland, Jorden Holder (2) and Nigerian triallist James Okoli. City were 1-0 up at half-time (against the run of play) and pulled the score back to 2-2 after United eventually started converting their chances.

Joey Beauchamp was a big influence for United, hitting the post and setting up three of the goals, including Okoli's impressive volley for the fourth. The Nigerian defender was released by Motherwell in May and impressed the watching Mike Ford enough to convince United to take a further look at him against “better” opposition.

No Northern passage

Following disgraceful scenes by a few morons at the Rochdale game United have announced that the North Stand will be closed to home supporters “for the foreseeable future”, although they then foresaw that this would mean the next three games or so. This would be until some mesh netting that is on order arrives to be placed between the segregated supporters and some fences can be erected behind the stand. It is a shame that the club didn't get this common-sensicle act together in the foreseeable past. Hopefully this action will do more than just displace the hoolies, otherwise we could end up with no home sides left to watch from!

Meanwhile it has been revealed that the attendance last Saturday was actually 8,842, one thousand more than was announced at the match. It seems odd how the club could lose a thousand supporters, but if anyone can, United can!

Bits and Bobs and Bens

Exeter City have told Ben Abbey that they will not be offering him a contract. Abbey was on trial at Brentford, but when they told the former United striker that they weren't interested in signing him Abbey turned to Exeter, whom Abbey had snubbed earlier in the Summer, after he had been released by Southend. However Grecians boss Noel Blake said that he wasn't ever going to sign the player, especially just two days before the start of the season, and so Abbey remains clubless.

Kevin Francis, meanwhile, has found a new stomping ground, joining Conference outfit Hednesford Town after being released by Hull City at the end of last season.

Dean Saunders is in talks with Crystal Palace boss Steve Bruce, and is going to be training with the Londoners next week. Bruce said that nothing concrete had been agreed and that Deano is just to train with them on an informal basis while they discuss possibilities.

Ian McCaldon, the former Livingston goalie who played for United on trial before the start of the season, is currently on trial with Wolves. Meanwhile Stevenage Borough are claiming that John Dreyer is going to be an excellent signing for them after he was “mucked about” by United in pre-season.

Nicky Banger is apparently on trial at swindon. Expect him to be found not guilty… (and one we missed a couple of weeks back – Steve Anthrobus has been signed by Welsh League side TNS).
