Ox stir fry the Wok

Oxford United made it three wins in succession, and their fifth away win in their last six trips, thanks to beating Woking 2-1 at the Kingfield Sports Ground this afternoon. Leading scorer Yemi Odubade continued in his recent rich vein of form by opening the scoring after 20 minutes. Ten minutes after half time Guiseppe Sole equalised when he was first to the rebound after Billy Turley had saved his penalty. United's winner came with 13 minutes remaining when Phil Trainer headed home Adam Murray's corner. [@news]2306[/@news] [@opponent]woking[/@opponent]

Yemi should have opened the scoring much earlier, when Murray set him free after just six minutes. He outpaced the defence but his shot was saved by Ross Worner, who had retreated to his line rather than come out to challenge Yemi. Oxford had another opportunity to trouble Worner 12 minutes later, when former Cards player Craig McAllister forced the keeper into a save with a long-range effort. Then came Yemi's opener, scoring from a much harder chance than the one he had earlier squandered, after he had been set free by Jamie Hand. Woking had the occasional opportunities to trouble Billy Turley, and Sole shot just over from a free kick 25 yards out. Marvin Morgan then forced Turley into his first save of the game, shortly before the break.

The second period started scrappily, and it was a defensive mistake that led to Woking's equaliser. Michael Howard and Trainer messed about with the ball at the back, and when Morgan dispossessed Howard, the on-loan left back was adjudged to have tripped Morgan by the by-line. Sole's initial penalty was saved by Turley, but the ball went straight back to Sole, who made no mistake with the rebound. However, United refused to let their heads drop, and after weathering some pressure from the home side, which failed to seriously threaten United's goal, Oxford regained the lead. A shot from Eddie Anaclet looked to be going wide, but Worner nevertheless pushed the ball out for a corner. Murray's set piece fell straight to Trainer, who headed firmly home to earn another win for the much-improved Yellows. There were some nervy moments towards the end, but eventually the final whistle blew, and the Us celebrated.

With Luke Foster serving the second of his two-match suspension, Darren Patterson kept faith with the same starting line up that won 1-0 at York City on Tuesday. Midway through the second half, Danny Rose replaced Howard, who was suffering from a knock he'd received earlier in the game. Matt Green came on for Yemi, and with the game drawing to its conclusion McAllister went off to be replaced by Eddie Hutchinson, who will doubtless be upset that his twin brother Tom wasn't in the Woking side.
